The legacy fleet refers to the entire BART revenue fleet built between 1970 and 1996. These total 688 cars (fleet size numbers vary depending on year), divided into 6 different and distinct types, have a long and illustrious history, including various rebuildings, modifications, and accidents. This section of the website explains to the user the different types of cars of the legacy fleet.
