D Cars
Car No: 3001-3310; Built: 2016-2024 (Bombardier/Alstom); In Service: 2018-Present

Picture
The face of the Fleet of the Future is the D car.

These cars share similaries with the C cars, in that they can run as lead, trailing, and mid-train cars. However, they lack the flipper doors of their older counterparts.

The first 4 D cars, 3001-3004 were prototypes, in a similar vein to the original Rohr Prototypes of days of yore. They were not replaced, but rather modded extensively, and run in revenue service.

Production cars 3005-onwards were also built in the same site in Plattsburgh, NY, and later Pittsburg, CA.

With only 47 seats per D car (compared to 60 for most of the A2 cars and 72 for the original A cars), perhaps the Fleet of the Future should be known as the "Fleet of the Few Chair".
Production Years:
All numbers are rough estimates, given various gaps in car onboarding process.

Notes:
3007 missing front/Y end logo
3061 was the First Fleet of the Future Car built in California.

Operations

D cars can operate like C cars, in that they can be both lead/trail cars, or mid cars. However, there is no passenger pass-through on midtrain D cars, unlike the C cars.
