The face of the Fleet of the Future is the D car.
These cars share similaries with the C cars, in that they can run as lead, trailing, and mid-train cars. However, they lack the flipper doors of their older counterparts. The first 4 D cars, 3001-3004 were prototypes, in a similar vein to the original Rohr Prototypes of days of yore. They were not replaced, but rather modded extensively, and run in revenue service. Production cars 3005-onwards were also built in the same site in Plattsburgh, NY, and some in Pittsburg, CA. |
